Bequests
Make a bequest
Including a gift in your Will for Meals on Wheels SA is an empowering way of supporting the good work we do — now and into the future.
What is a bequest?
A bequest describes the act of giving assets to individuals or organisations, through the provisions of a Will or an estate plan. Bequests can be made to family members, friends, institutions or charities.
A Will or estate plan gives you the power to choose how your assets can benefit your loved ones and, should you wish, the causes that you believe in and wish to support.
Preparing your Will needn’t be complex, nor expensive, but we recommend you seek the advice of a legal advisor to ensure your Will is valid, and clearly set out the way you intend your estate to be distributed.
How your bequest will help Meals on Wheels SA
Thanks to generous gifts from our sponsors, we have been able to make a difference in the lives of our customers and volunteers. This work has included:
Keeping our meal charges down
Refurbishing our Fresh Cook kitchens
Investing in new services to support our mission
Specifying where your bequest will go
Whilst you are free to direct your bequest towards a particular purpose, we suggest you do not limit your description because we may not be able to fulfil your request if it is too specific.
In order for Meals on Wheels SA to have the flexibility to apply your gift, our preference is for your gift to be directed towards ‘general purposes of Meals on Wheels SA (Inc)’.
Suggested wording for your Will
Wills can be complex and there are many ways of including a gift in your Will. We cannot provide you with specific legal advice, so please ensure you obtain your own independent legal advice on the most appropriate wording.
However, here are some examples of wording you may consider with your legal advisor when you are preparing or updating your Will:
For general purposes (where most needed)
‘I give, free of all duties or taxes, [the sum of $ … or … % or the rest and residue] of my estate to Meals on Wheels SA (Inc) (ABN 7606 9457196) for its general purposes.’
For Meals on Wheels SA as one of several residuary beneficiaries
‘I give the rest and residue of my estate, free of all duties and taxes, to Meals on Wheels SA (Inc) (ABN 7606 9457196) and to [insert name(s) of other residual beneficiaries] in equal shares for their general purposes.’
For a nominated Meals on Wheels SA branch
‘I give, free of all duties or taxes, [the sum of $ … or … % or the rest and residue] of my estate, to Meals on Wheels SA (Inc) (ABN 7606 9457196) to be applied towards the benefit on the … branch. If my nominated branch is no longer operating at the time of my death, my gift shall be applied for the general purposes of Meals on Wheels SA (Inc)(ABN 7606 9457196).’
