Capturing Conversations

Capturing Conversations began with a simple but powerful idea: to honour the voices of veterans whose stories are too often left unheard, and to create meaningful connections between people who may never have met otherwise.

Hosted at the William Kibby VC Veterans Association, this project brought veterans and volunteer writers together in the Association’s newly opened wellness space. What emerged was something far deeper than interviews: it was shared laughter, reflection, emotion and legacy-building, all unfolding in a place dedicated to care and remembrance.

At Meals on Wheels SA, we understand how vital social connection is for wellbeing. Our vision has always been to build well-nourished, independent and connected communities across South Australia. This collaboration with the William Kibby VC Veterans Association is a natural extension of that mission. Together, we’re celebrating the wisdom, courage and lived experience of older (and occasionally younger!) Australians - especially those who have served.

Set in a space named for nurse Lieutenant Millicent Dorsch and standing beside a shed honouring Sergeant William “Bill” Kibby VC, these conversations took place exactly where they belong: among community, history and respect.

Every interview is a reminder that legacy is carried forward through connection. Each story captured is a treasured piece of living history.

We’re deeply grateful to every veteran who generously shared their experiences, to the volunteer writers who gave their time, compassion and skill to honour these stories, and to the community that continues to grow around this project.

We invite you to explore Capturing Conversations and experience these remarkable stories for yourself.
